Custom site or template: how to choose

A template (Wix, Squarespace, a WordPress theme) is the right choice more often than people admit: a simple brochure site, a tight budget, a need to get something online this week. Let's be honest about that.

But templates have a hidden cost: you adapt your business to the tool, rather than the other way around. Every feature outside the box — a price calculator, a specific booking flow, a connection to your internal software — becomes a workaround or a dead end.

The real questions

First: does your site need to do something, or only show something? To show, a template is often enough. To do — calculate, book, connect, automate — custom quickly becomes cheaper than bending a template.

Second: who owns it? With some platforms, you're renting your online presence. The day you leave, you start from zero. A well-built custom site belongs to you: the code, the content, the hosting.

The short rule

Brochure site, minimal budget, urgent need: template, no shame. Business processes, planned growth, integrations: custom, from the start — redoing always costs more than doing it right.
